This week's question is:

Read the following excerpt from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain (1884):

“I stood a-looking at him; he set there a-looking at me, with his chair tilted back a little. I set the candle down. I noted the window was up; so he had clumb in by the shed. He kept a-looking me all over.”

What do the phrases “a-looking,” “he set there,” and “clumb in” tell you about the narrator of the story?

  1. He doesn’t get along with his father.
  2. He speaks a foreign language.
  3. He speaks standard English.
  4. He cannot read or write.
  5. He speaks a dialect of English.

Now think about it first and try to figure it out yourself before checking here for the answer.
