Inmates at the Monroe County Correctional Center use free Adult Basic Education and GED preparation (ABE/GED) classes in English, reading, writing and math to:

  • Improve their academic skills
  • Prepare for the GED exam, Work Keys test, and Ivy Tech entrance exam given monthly
  • Use computers to learn
  • Become employable
  • Learn at their own pace -- and with no grades!
  • Qualify for a possible time cut

Jail classes are a gateway to the future for many inmates, who are expected to do serious work toward educational goals while taking either GED preparation or employability classes.

MCCSC also provides monthly GED testing on-site for inmates.
