Inmates at the Monroe County Correctional Center use free Adult Basic Education and GED preparation (ABE/GED) classes in English, reading, writing and math to:

  • Prepare for the GED test or college and vocational admissions tests
  • Improve employment opportunities and gain confidence
  • Help qualify for possible sentence time cut
  • Use computers to learn
  • Get individualized instruction with state-licensed teachers
  • Learn at their own pace with no grades given

Classes at the Correctional Center are a gateway to the future for many of the inmates, who are expected to do serious work toward educational goals while taking either GED preparation or employability classes.

MCCSC also provides monthly GED testing on-site for inmates.
